Norah grew up quietly with her mother in Texas.  While she always found the music of Billie Holiday and Bill Evans both intriguing and comforting, she didn't really explore jazz until attending Dallas' Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. During high school, Jones won the Down Beat Student Music Awards for Best Jazz Vocalist and Best Original Composition in 1996, and earned a second Best Jazz Vocalist award in 1997.  Putting music on the back burner, she went on to the University of North Texas to work on earning a degree in jazz piano.  She did this for two years, and then took a friend up on an invite to visit in New York during the summer, she never came back to Texas.  The rest as they say is history.  Norah and her band recorded a 6 track album that was supposed to just be a demo, but people loved it so much and now it's a collectors item, very hard to find.  Her "debut" album Come Away With Me is phenomenal.  I highly recommend it to all of you.  If you go to her website at NorahJones.com you can listen to clips from the songs.  I hope you enjoy this weeks honey and I hope that you check out her music.
