Birth: February 9, 1979 Zhang was born to a retired kindergarten teacher mother and an economist father. She began her dance career at the age of 11 and it lasted for 6 years. Once she decided that her future was not in dance she enrolled in the China Central Drama Academy to study acting. Her first feature role was in Wo de fu qin mu qin (1999) (aka "The Road Home", but literally "My Father and My Mother"). Her big break however came in Wo hu cang long (2000) ("Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon"). Since then Zhang has worked on Rush Hour 2 and is due in Hero this year.
